ADA Compliance for NEMT Providers

Every NEMT company must follow ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) standards to safely and legally transport passengers with mobility needs. This includes vehicle accessibility, driver assistance protocols, and equipment maintenance.

4-point tie-downs + lap & shoulder belts
Clear Floor Space
≥ 30″ × 48″ unobstructed area
Interior Lighting
2 foot-candles minimum at steps; 1 foot-candle minimum outside
Slip-Resistance
Non-slip surfaces throughout vehicle entry and interior
Contrast Markings
High-contrast edges on steps and thresholds
Handrails
Required at entrances and inside for stability
